South Asian Women Help & Support

There are many reasons which lead ethnic minority women, particularly of South Asian origin, to leave home forcefully or voluntarily. Issues such as cultural conflict, family breakdown, disownment, forced marriage and or intercourse, domestic and or honour- based violence (real and perceived), as well as many factors can lead women to seek information and practical assistance.

The SHARAN Project is designed to empower, educate and inspire women who want to actively learn more about the support and choices that are available to them, to provide them with the tools to lead life on their own terms.

Being away from home can be daunting and there are many questions. Who do you trust? What do you do now? Where can you go to get culturally sensitive assistance specifically for vulnerable South Asian women? SHARAN offers impartial, confidential and culturally sensitive, support.

The SHARAN Project, run by South Asian experts, provides assistance on key life skills, information and advice on a range of issues including health, housing, employment, education, financial, legal and personal development, to support vulnerable women in their transition to independent living without fear.

We do not encourage anyone to leave home, but if this is a decision that has been taken then SHARAN is here to help.

SHARAN recognizes that many of the issues that it deals with, transcends national, religious and cultural boundaries and for that reason will endeavor to help vulnerable women, irrespective of background to the best of its ability.
